Sophisticated Garters

So many brides now aren't too sure about the tradition of a garter and going through the tossing of the garter at the reception. #1- They think that it doesn't quite show their sophistication and #2- Because they can't find ones that are attractive and show off their personality. I came across this resource through the Wedding Chicks Blog, whom I love, and they are the most adorable garter's I have ever seen.

Introducing the new Phindy Studios

We love Mindy and Phil Thornton of Phindy Studios! Mindy and Phil have been in the process of transforming their image from Thornton+Photo to the new and improved, and I must say, just beautiful! In light of their recent change over, and the joy that we have working with them a few times this summer and hopefully more this year, we wanted to feature them as our vendor spotlight this week. All the cool and different people we get to meet and work with.  I also like being my own boss and hanging out with Phil and our dog, Meg, all day :)

One piece of advice for Brides-to-be...Get out of the box!  Don't be afraid to be unique.  Make sure your wedding expresses who you are.

Keep it stress free!  The people you choose to work with on your wedding day should remove stress, not create it.  Check those references!

Vintage Inspired Couture "Short" Gowns

Today I came across the wonderful work of DollyCouture.net - a custom vintage-inspired short wedding dress website. All of their hand-made gowns are under $600 and are so fabulous! This is perfect for the bride wanting something unique to wear on her day...I think this would also be a perfect "reception dress," for the brides who are desiring to have a two-dress wedding...a longer, traditional and formal look for the ceremony, but a fun and short look for the reception!

I think the "Milan" is my personal favorite! Love, love, love the chiffon rosettes!

A Delightful Day's Baby Shower for Amber

In case you didn't know, I am (Amber, Creative Director for A Delightful Day) 9 months pregnant with our first baby due at the end of February!...

On January 17th, Mary Alice and my friends, Joyce & Stephanie hosted a beautiful baby shower for me and Baby Colin! The event was held at Events at 1418, a venue in downtown Nashville that has funky loft style to it. We love to recommend this space to clients for smaller receptions, rehearsal dinner and events such as a shower. The theme was a beach theme to compliment our baby room theme. :)

 

Events at 1418 is run by one of our favorite caterers and bakers in town, A Catered Affair / The Bake Shoppe....and they made these unbelievable lemon and strawberry cupcakes...they had these completely real looking edible seashells (sugar) and sand (graham cracker crumbs) on top. They were delicious!

The fabulous diaper cake the girls made! Those diapers will come in handy!!

 

The favor...little baby carriages that you can plant (the paper was made of seeds) and will grow wildflowers out of them!

The cute centerpieces...floating flowers and seashells and little fishies...

 

Yumm! The food was delicious and the decor was so stunning - all the different seashells and glass!

 

The gift table...the invitation instructed guests to bring a book instead of a card and a little nameplate was included in each invite for the guest to fill out and include with the book. We have some many wonderful books to read to Colin, I will love being able to tell which one each came from!

Mom traveled all the way from my hometown of Las Vegas to be a part of the celebration. :) So glad she came to visit!

We are incredibly blessed and thankful for all the generosity and best wishes of our friends and clients in welcoming this baby! It's hard to believe all the planning and registries and parties are over and now his arrival is so soon.

I will be taking a short maternity leave from A Delightful Day, but will be back in March just in time for wedding season! :)

A Delightful Day Event Planning

Kate + Nathan- December 6th

I had such a delight to work with such a beautiful couple as Kate Medley and Nathan McGregor of McMinnville, Tennessee. I had never ventured to this quaint part of Tennessee, about an hour from Nashville, but on December 6th we were a part of the wedding to be at in McMinnville. Hundreds of guests turned out at the Central Church of Christ to celebrate the love of Nathan and Kate in a beautiful candlelit ceremony followed by a fun reception of music, food, and friends at the McMinnville Country Club. Kate was so delicately involved in every detail and was able to soak in everything she had planned over months with our assistance. Enjoy the beautiful shots by the talented Dawn Winton Photography, which is based on McMinnville, but will travel to Nashville. Also, documenting the day in their always timeless style was McNeal Video of Mt. Juliet. I can't wait to see the video all finished!

 

 

 

 

As Kate was slipping into her beautiful ivory, taffeta gown that was purchased in Nashville at B. Hughes, the bridesmaids did their best to keep her emotionally all together. Kate couldn't believe that after all of the planning, this day was finally here. It flies by!

 

The ceremony was beautifully decorated with tons of pillar and votive candles on the altar and in the windows for a candelit ceremony, flanked by all white florals and greenery by the wonderfully talented local shop of All-o-k-sions florals in McMinnville. Standing at the altar were all of Nathan and Kate's closest friends who you could just tell love the two of them together. Because Kate had so many girlfriends from her sorority, 4 of her sorority sisters acted as the program attendants and flower girls, each carrying a bowl of either white or red rose petals. Two followed down each of the aisles and lead the way for the bride. This was such a special role for the 4 of them and it meant so much to Kate that they were involved in some way.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The beautiful white and silver themed elements for the country club decor was created by the wonderfully talented Dale from Southern Traditions, a local decor and specialty gift items boutique in town. It was amazing to see the transformation of that country club from when I had seen it months prior to the makeover that Dale gave it.

 

 

The first dance and the father daughter dance kicked off the fun that was provided by a wonderfully talented local band to McMinnville, who also play at venues here in Nashville, called The Joe Harvey Band. They were a blast!! We couldn't get them to stop and let the bride and groom depart. Course, Nate and Kate didn't want to either!

 

The cake, a red velvet depiction of presents, was made by a local cake decorator in the area.

 

The all important groom's cake was designed by Nashville's The French Confection. Being the big UT fan that Nate is, we went through so much getting Smokey to the reception site. From his travels in the back of my Highlander to McMinnville, to finding a location to keep him cool, to repairing his running face paint, Nate was totally surprised.  

 

 

 

Nathan and Kate, we were thrilled to be a part of such a love filled day! I truly don't think I have met a couple more in love than the two of you! We wish you both many, many years of love, laughter, and joy and thanks again for allowing us to witness your beginning as husband and wife.
